Mentee, GreenLyf Climate Career Mentorship Programme 2025
Climate change is real, and its effects are becoming more evident every day. Uganda, like many other African countries, is particularly vulnerable due to unpredictable rainfall, droughts, and devastating floods. Adaptation is not just an option—it is a necessity. Climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and renewable energy solutions must be embraced to build resilience.
As a mentee in the GreenLyf Climate Career Mentorship Programme 2025, I was inspired to take action by starting my avocado-growing project. The idea came to me when I saw an advertisement for the program, and I knew I wanted to be part of something meaningful. I didn’t just want to learn—I wanted to apply my knowledge and contribute to the fight against climate change.
Women are among the most vulnerable to climate change, yet they are also key drivers of sustainable solutions. I aim to be a role model, not only within this mentorship program but also in my community and beyond. By leading by example, I hope to encourage more women to take up climate-smart agriculture and sustainable practices that can help secure a better future for all.
This journey hasn’t been easy. Self-paced learning requires dedication, resilience, and a willingness to embrace challenges. However, every obstacle I face strengthens my commitment to understanding climate concepts and putting them into practice. Knowledge alone isn’t enough—action is what truly makes the difference.
Addressing climate change requires more than individual efforts. Governments, communities, NGOs, and private entities must work together to integrate climate resilience into policies and provide financial support for sustainable initiatives. National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) offer structured strategies, but their success depends on stakeholder involvement and commitment.
Every individual has a role to play. If we all take action—no matter how small—we can create lasting change. It is time to stand up, take responsibility, and work toward a more sustainable future.
