From HR to Forestry: A Mother’s Journey into the Green Economy
This January, we proudly launched the GreenLyf Climate Career Mentorship Programme at Ekcians GreenLyf Foundation! One of our remarkable mentees, Apio Carolyne (pictured), was a stay-at-home mother before joining the program.
From the moment she enrolled, Carolyne embraced the opportunity to build a green career from home. She immediately took action, completing the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) course on Introduction to Climate Change: From Learning to Action—a foundational course we recommend to all our mentees.
Last weekend, I had the privilege of visiting her home near #TheSourceofTheNile in Jinja to witness the incredible progress of her project. It is truly inspiring to see a Human Resource professional transform into a forester! Carolyne has successfully grafted over 1,000 Hass avocado seedlings, which are already in high demand.
This premium avocado variety sells for $1.4 (UGX 5,000) per seedling, making it a promising venture. Carolyne envisions establishing a Hass avocado farm in Kumi District while also supplying seedlings to the local market.
She expresses deep gratitude to Ekcians GreenLyf Foundation for the mentorship, which has played a pivotal role in her transformation. To date, Carolyne has completed more than five UNITAR courses, along with numerous other training programs in the green economy, all through our mentorship initiative.
Her journey is a testament to the power of knowledge, mentorship, and taking action. We are excited to see her vision unfold!
